Evangelism and Discipleship Training Trip – Roc Roc Payam, Kuajena Payam, Udici Payam, Kangi, Marial Bai(Wau) Payam, Wau Bai Payam, Sudan

In July, 2008 Pastor Joseph Arob and his 9 person evangelism team traveled northwest to Jur River County, Sudan. The team left Yei, Sudan on July 10 and returned on August 12.

The results of what God did through the evangelism team are listed below:

Village Indicated Decisions For Christ
Roc Roc Payam 4,600
Kuajena Payam 2,900
Udici Payam 3,100
Kangi 1,800
Marial Bai (Wau) Payam 5,000
Wau Bai Payam 3,700
Total 21,100

Approximately 70% of the new believers had been animists, and 12% had been Muslims. The JESUS Film was shown in the Dinka language to mainly the Dinka tribe. One new church was planted in Marial Bai. Follow-up of the new believers will be handled by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church and the Episcopal Church of Sudan. A total of 400 bibles were distributed in the Dinka language.

Discipleship training was conducted on Unconditional Surrender (Luke 9:57-62).

Someone once said, “The Holy Spirit won’t manifest Himself until we deny ourselves.” This is a real truth in following Christ. We should pursue an “unconditional surrender” to our Lord. People who really love God welcome the opportunity to deny what they love most in order to follow Christ. People who haven’t really fallen in love with Christ usually have many excuses when we approach the “call” to be His disciples. What did the “prospective disciples” learn in the flowing verses?

  1. To follow Christ means not trusting in your worldly things (Luke 9:57-58).
    1. Following Jesus requires a total commitment. We must simply follow Him.
    2. Money and things should not be our security. Jesus gave the following testimony in figurative language. Foxes and birds have homes, but the Son of Man holds on to nothing in this fallen world as His security.
  2. To follow Christ there can be no other loyalties (Luke 9:59-61).
    1. We must radically rearrange our lives in obedience to Christ. In these verses Jesus waits for no presumptuous remarks. He engages the man, “Follow me.”
    2. We must put God first in our lives. Whatever Jesus tells us to do, we must do it.
  3. To follow Christ there can be no lukewarm service (Luke 9:62).
    1. Many people are miserable in Christ’s service because they want to keep one foot in the world and one foot in the Kingdom of God.
    2. To long for other things while in the Kingdom of God is a contradiction. Don’t look back. Remember Lot’s wife looked back and became a pillar of salt (Genesis 19:26).

It is not easy to be a Christian. Consistently following Him is the only right path. Jesus doesn’t want peace time soldiers or materialistic disciples. We need to follow Him whatever the costs. We must follow Him by “unconditionally surrendering” to Him.
