Evangelism Trip – Juba, Sudan

In December, 2005 Bishop Elias Taban and his 10 person evangelism team traveled east to Juba, Sudan. Juba is the capital of the Government of Southern Sudan. It is the largest town in southern Sudan. It was held by the Government of Sudan until the Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed in early 2005. Many NGOs are moving to Juba now that there is peace. Also the United Nations has a big presence in Juba. With all of these people coming to Juba the price of everything is very expensive. Our team stayed in our tents during this trip. The team was welcomed warmly in Juba. Bishop Taban was interviewed on Juba TV and radio.

Photo - Township SignThe team left Yei, Sudan on December 6 and returned on December 22. During this trip 13,000 people indicated decisions for Christ. The JESUS Film was shown in 6 locations in Juba.

Approximately 40% of the new believers had been animists, and 15% had been Muslims. The JESUS Film was shown in the Sudanese Arabic and Bari languages to many different tribes. Follow-up of the new believers will be handled by the Sudan Pentecostal Church, the African Inland Church, and the Episcopal Church of Sudan. Sixty percent of the new believers will be followed up by the Episcopal Church of Sudan. Eight hundred bibles were distributed. The team distributed 500 bibles in Arabic, 200 bibles in Bari, and 100 bibles in English.
