Evangelism and Discipleship Training Trip – Tambura Area, Sudan

In October, 2005 Evangelist Thomas Kenyi and his 9 person evangelism team traveled to the Tambura area of Sudan. The team left Yei, Sudan on October 10 and returned on December 5. During this evangelism trip 15,000 people indicated decisions for Christ.

Approximately 65% of the new believers had been animists, and 5% had been Muslims. The JESUS Film was shown in the Zande language to the Zande and Balanda tribes. Follow-up of the new believers will be handled by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, the Sudan Pentecostal Church, and the Episcopal Church of Sudan. A total of 300 bibles were distributed in the Zande language.

Our team once again encountered tribal fighting, and God protected our team. God used our team as ministers of reconciliation through our JESUS Film shows and through our team’s preaching and teaching. Our team taught them the true message of hope in the forgiveness of God in Jesus Christ.

The main goal of our discipleship training centered on the following paragraph:

Church leaders must fully comprehend the fact that being a follower of Christ means that each of their lives must be surrendered to Him. Each person must strive towards righteous living for His sake. Jesus is our hope for glory. All people that believe in Jesus have gained the right to serve Him.

Lesson Outline

1. The Surrendered Life
In order to become a follower of Christ you must be willing to surrender your life to Him (Matthew 16:24). This surrendered life involves the following:

a) Death to Sin (1 Peter 2:18-24)
b) Fellowship with Christ (Romans 6:5-7)
c) Rendering of Unquestioning Service (John 4:34)
d) Submission to God’s Will (John 7:17)

2. Righteous Living for Christ’s Sake

In our relationship with our Master we must have righteous lives because of our obedience to Him. (Luke 6:22-23; Matthew 6:19, 10:22, 37, Philippians 1:29).

3. Righteous Living is our Hope of Glory

(Romans 5:1, 1 Peter 1:2, Titus 2:13, Revelations 1:7)

4. Serving our Master

When you become a follower of Jesus, you gain the right to serve Him (Ephesians 4:11-15).

5. A Call to Take Your Stand

Everyone was asked after every training session to repeat the following words spoken by the training facilitator:

“Dear Lord, I believe that you are the Son of God and that you died on the cross and were raised from the dead. I know I have sinned and need forgiveness. I turn from my sins and receive you as my Savior and Lord. Thank you for saving me. I had the opportunity to meet the Master. Amen”
