Evangelism and Discipleship Training Trip – Wundabi and Panyana, Sudan

In July, 2004 Bishop Elias Taban and his 4 person evangelism team traveled south to Wundabi and Panyana, Sudan. Both Wundabi and Panyana are in the Lujulo Payam. The team left Yei, Sudan on July 18 and returned on July 23.

During the evangelism trip there were 950 indicated decisions for Christ. There were 650 decisions in Wundabi and 300 in Panyana. Approximately 60% of the new believers had been animists, and 5% had been Muslims. The JESUS Film was shown in the Lingala and Bari languages to the Kaliko tribe. Follow-up of the new believers will be handled by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, the Episcopal Church of Sudan, and the Sudan Pentecostal Church.

The team reported that the Presbyterian church which was planted in Panyana in our April, 2003 evangelism trip is doing fine. They are strongly supporting their evangelist in charge of their congregation. The team reported that as much as 80% of the people who made decisions for Christ in the April, 2003 evangelism trip are strong believers. Our team estimates that 50% of these people are in the ECS Revival Congregation.

Bishop Taban’s follow-up teaching was primarily on the book of Romans with the following verses also:

A total of 150 bibles were distributed in the Lingala language. There is no bible in the Kaliko language, so most of the people read Bangala which is simply Lingala spoken in Northern Congo. Some people can also read in the Bari language.
