Evangelism Trip – Keriwa North and Keriwa South, Sudan and Yumbe, Uganda

In June, 2004 Pastor Jackson Yemba and his 9 person evangelism team traveled southeast to Yumbe, Uganda and to Keriwa North and Keriwa South, Sudan. The team left Yei, Sudan on June 4 and returned on June 30. This trip was both a follow-up discipleship, training trip and an evangelism trip. During the trip a total of 5,250 people indicated decisions for Christ. There were 1,900 decisions in Keriwa South, 1,650 decisions in Keriwa North, and 1,700 decisions in Yumbe. In Keriwa North and South approximately 60% of the new believers had been animists and none had been Muslims. In Yumbe 40% of the new believers had been Muslims and 30% had been animists. The JESUS Film was shown in the Aringa language. The tribes reached were primarily the Aringa tribe and secondarily the Kuku tribe.

For discipleship, the team taught six lessons on prayer using Matthew 6:5-13, Matthew 7:7-11, Luke 11:1-13, and Luke 18:1-5. Then they taught seven lessons on the nature of true holiness using Matthew 9:14-17, Mark 2:16-22, and Luke 5:33-39.

Two new Presbyterian churches had previously been planted in Keriwa North and Keriwa South in January, 2004. The team reports that these two churches are doing well. Follow-up of the new believers will be handled by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church and the Sudan Pentecostal Church. A total of 200 bibles were distributed in the Lugbara language.
