Evangelism Trip – Yumbe District, Uganda

In January, 2004 Pastor Confusors Mawa and his 9 person evangelism team traveled southeast to Yumbe District, Uganda. The team left Yei, Sudan on January 10 and returned on January 27. Sixty percent of the district’s population are Muslims. In this area the West-Nile Bank Front rebel movement had been fighting the Ugandan government until it collapsed in 1998. Most of the people have only been to Islamic schools which teach mainly Islam and Arabic in class.

The people of this area welcomed the team and many people were healed after prayer. During this trip the JESUS Film was shown in the Aringa language. A total of 4,750 people indicated decisions for Christ with 1,000 decisions in Yumbe town, and 3,750 decisions in Keriwa North and South. Approximately 50% of the new believers had been animists, and 20% had been Muslims. The Aringa tribe was primarily reached during this trip.

One new Presbyterian church was planted in Keriwa North, and one new Presbyterian church was planted in Keriwa South. Both Keriwa North and South are located near the Sudanese border in Uganda. Regarding follow-up, in Keriwa North and South the new believers were handed over to the two new churches and to the Sudan Pentecostal Church. In Yumbe town the new believers were handed over to the National Pentecostal Church of Uganda and the Full Gospel Church of Uganda. The evangelism team distributed 200 bibles in the Lugbara language and 100 bibles in English.
