Evangelism Trip – Tore, Lukupiri, Mukpara, Angebi, and Rasolo, Sudan

In October, 2003 Pastor Simon Salah and his 9 person evangelism team traveled 1 day west to Tore, Lukupiri, Mukpara, Angebi, and Rasolo, Sudan. This was a follow-up trip to the previous February trip to this same area. However, this was the first time that our team had been to Lukupiri. The team left Yei, Sudan on October 17 and returned on October 30. During this evangelism trip a total of 2,400 people indicated they received Christ. Approximately 70% of the new believers had been animists. The JESUS Film was shown in the Lingala language, and the Mundu, Avokaya, and Baka tribes were reached. Also, many people were healed of diseases and many charms were burned.

Our team reported that the Rasolo Presbyterian Church that was planted in February is doing well spiritually and is meeting a lot of its member’s physical needs. Additionally, two new Presbyterian Churches were planted during this evangelism trip. One new church was planted in Tore and another new church was planted in Lukupiri. Follow-up of the new believers will be handled by the Episcopal Church of Sudan and the Presbyterian churches. The evangelism team distributed 150 Bibles in the Lingala language to believers who could read.

As far as food and accommodation costs are concerned, our team members are each given a certain amount of money at the start of each trip. For this trip each team member received $50 for this 14 day trip. In this case this was $3.57 per day per team member. Each team member uses this money wisely to buy local food and to secure a place to sleep at night. Usually, the team sleeps on the floor in a grass hut with their mosquito net. If a team member has any money left at the end of the trip, the team member can use that left over money to support their family. In more developed areas, guest houses are sometimes available for $4-6 per night and sometimes full board is available at $12-14 per night per person. In these cases, each team member is not given a food and accommodation allowance, and the team leader pays the entire bill.

As far as pay is concerned, each team member is given $30 per trip. In this case each team member received $2.14 per day.

The breakdown of expenditures for this evangelism trip is as follows:

First Aid $10
Fuel for the Truck $100
Pay for Truck Driver $30
Pay for the Evangelists (10 x $30) $300
Food and accommodations for Evangelists $500
150 Lingala language Bibles $750
TOTAL $1,690
