Evangelism Trip – Mapoko, Sudan

In April, 2003 Confusors Mawa Ezira and his 9 person evangelism team traveled 20 miles northwest to Mapoko, Sudan. Rev. Ezira, who has a diploma in Theology, is the pastor in charge of the Yei town Presbyterian congregation. Bishop Taban did not go on this trip because he was in Rokon showing the JESUS Film. The team left Yei, Sudan on March 31 and returned on April 12. The Jesus Film was shown some nights in the Lingala language and some nights in the Zande language. The team used one of our two projectors to show the JESUS Film. During this evangelism trip a total of 6,800 people were born again as new believers in Jesus. Approximately 30% of the new believers had been animists, and 15% had been Muslims. The Makaraka tribe, who are Zande speakers, were primarily reached during this trip. Other tribes reached were the Kakwa, Pojulu, Mundu, Baka, and Avokaya. Most of the other tribes speak Bangala, which is similar to Lingala. The Kakwa and Pojulu tribes also speak Bari.

Regarding follow-up, some of the new believers were handed over to the Episcopal Church of Sudan(ECS) and some to the Sudan Pentecostal Church. The newly born again believers who had been Muslims requested that a new church be planted. One new Presbyterian church will be started in Mapoko for the former Muslims and some of the former animists. The evangelism team distributed 75 Bibles in the Zande language, and 25 bibles in the Bari language to born again believers who could read. Of the 100 bibles, 40 were given to pastors, evangelists, and church leaders.

The breakdown of expenditures for this evangelism trip is as follows:

Fuel for the Truck $100
Pay for Truck Driver $30
Pay for the Evangelists (10 x $20) $200
Food and accommodations for Evangelists $500
75 Zande and 25 Bari Bibles $500
TOTAL $1,330
