Evangelism Trip Rasolo, Sudan
In February, 2003 Bishop Taban and his 15 person evangelism team traveled 75 miles (7 hour drive) to Rasolo, Sudan. The team left Yei, Sudan on February 12 and returned on February 21. The JESUS Film was shown in the Lingala language. During this evangelism trip 3,240 people were born again as new believers in Jesus. Approximately 60% of the new believers had been animists and 13% had been Muslims. One new Presbyterian church will be started in Rasolo for some of the new believers. The Baka, Avokaya, and Mundu tribes were reached during this trip. Most of the people reached were Baka. The Baka have no bible in their language, but they speak Lingala.
In Rasolo a lot of witchcraft is practiced. The people who practice witchcraft are feared because it is believed that they can kill other people from hundreds of miles away. People who use witchcraft to be healed and protected from death travel to Rasolo. However, after the Jesus Film was shown and the gospel was preached, a lot of magic charms were burned in front of the public. It seemed like a miracle to the local people that these charms, which they thought could kill them just by looking at them, were burned without anything bad happening to the evangelism team and the new believers. The evangelism team held the hands of new believers in the name of Jesus while the charms burned.
Regarding follow-up, some of the new believers were handed over to the Episcopal Church of Sudan (ECS) , and some will join the new Presbyterian church. The evangelism team distributed 200 Bibles in the Lingala language to born again believers who could read. Most of the new believers are refugees who have returned from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). They are badly in need of relief assistance in the form of seeds, hoes, blankets, and second hand clothes. The breakdown of expenditures for this evangelism trip is as follows:
| Fuel for the Truck | $100 |
| Fuel for the Generator | $40 |
| Pay for the 15 Evangelists (15 x $20) | $300 |
| Food and accommodations for evangelists | $750 |
| 200 Bibles in the Lingala language | $1,000 |
| Food Purchased to Donate to People of Rasolo | $200 |
| TOTAL | $2,390 |
