Evangelism Trip – Yambio, Sudan

In May of 2002 Bishop Taban and his eight person Evangelism team drove for two days to Yambio, Sudan. The Yambio area is an almost forgotten place near the border of Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This area has a strong belief in Witchcraft. About 40% of the Yambio area population are animists. Both the tribe and the language of this area is called "Zande." Yambio County is known as the Land of the Zande.

The Evangelism team was in Yambio for five days. The JESUS Film was shown one night in Arabic with Pastor Moses Bakote of the Episcopal Church of Sudan as our translator. In scenes reminiscent of the Book of Acts, three thousand people accepted Christ after the showing of the JESUS Film. The three thousand that were saved were invited to church the next Sunday morning. In the church service on Sunday morning 5,000 people accepted Christ. This number included the three thousand people who accepted Christ the previous night who had come to church that morning for follow-up. The rest of the time the team spent in Yambio was used for teaching the new believers and for getting to know the community. The team delivered 224 Zande bibles and 400 Zande hymn books on the trip.
